| 1. what is the assignment? (the above screencast explains the project as well!) | You will be learning how easy it is to contribute to a wiki while researching web 2.0 tools on another wiki, Cool Tools for Schools. You should also be discovering some awesome tools for you to use in your classrooms! |
| 2. In order to contribute to this wiki, you must first join the wiki. Look for the Sign Up! button in the upper right hand of the wiki | |
| 3. After choosing Sign Up, you will then be prompted to join the site! Once you join, you will be able to contribute to the site! | |
| 4. Using the link on the right, go to Cool Tools for Schools wiki and scan the tool categories. Check out a few tools before settling in on one that you will use for the assignment. | Cool Tools For Schools |
| 5. Once you have decided on your tool, navigate the site, learn about the tool, try it out, and use the tool to create some type of sample output to put on your page. | For example, if you are interested in the category of Slideshow Tools, pick a tool like Slideshare to report out on. |
| 6. In the upper left Column (under the Home page), find the page named for the category that your tool fits under. Ensure you are selected on your page and then click on the Add Page button. Name the page after your tool. (For example, Slideshare would be the name of the page under the category, Slideshow Tools). | |
| 7. On the category page, edit the page and fill out your tool information in the table. Ensure there is a link from the category page to your tool page and that the weblink to your tool actually works. For both, you will use the Link button in the EasyEdit Toolbar. | |
| 8. On Your Tool Page, complete the following: (These are new for Fall 10) a. Describe your tool, it's major category & tell us what it does. b. How do you see yourself using the tool in the classroom? c. Provide a sample of something you did with this tool. The sample needs to be something you created. It should be shared on the wiki by either embedding the sample, or if appropriate a link to your creation. d. What might be some considerations when using this tool? (examples might be accessibility to disabled students; necessary bandwidth; required tools or equipment; privacy issues; copyright issues; is it practical for schools to use this tool?) e. Recommendations: is this a tool your would use or recommend for classroom use? Why or Why not? | Ensure your tool is one that can be used in the classroom or by the teacher in an effective way. Choosing a tool like File Sharing may be interesting to you, but not something you can really research for classroom use!! Feel free to use the table feature on your page to organize the reporting out. To add the sample of your tool, which should be of your creation, you can include a picture, video, or embed the sample by using the Widget. The example of a project that you might do. . .does not have to be completed, but a thoughtful idea that you believe could be accomplished with your tool. |
| 9. When finished save your page. Lastly: You will also need to read at least 3 other peers' tool research page and start or comment on an existing thread about their tool and research. For Cougar Courses: Give a link to your specific wiki page, your tool name and the tools/peers on which you commented | |
